Pelosi’s Jan. 6th Commission: Obvious “Witch Hunt”; Republicans Respond

(Decentralized Media) The deck was stacked to begin with. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi established a select committee to investigate the January 6th, 2021 ‘assault’ on the US Capitol, after Senate Republicans previously blocked a bipartisan independent commission on May 28th. Speaker Pelosi’s proposal for the select committee allowed her to appoint 13 members that would report on the, “facts, circumstances, and causes relating to the January 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex.” This includes,
“...facts and causes relating to the preparedness and response of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies in the National Capital Region and other instrumentalities of government, as well as the influencing factors that fomented such an attack on American representative democracy while engaged in a constitutional process.”
The bias was already present in the very wording of the origination of this proposal. The select committee was being sold as bi-partisan, however it was organized in such a way that the Democrats could select eight members, while the Republicans can only select five, of which, the GOP members hold no subpoena power. The select committee will have subpoena power and can order dispositions without House minority input, but the Republican members will not be allowed to do so? Why is that? One can only wonder.

“Former President Donald Trump’s top GOP nemesis Liz Cheney will serve on a committee created by House Democrats to investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.” The Washington Examiner headlined. Cheney (R-WY) has been outspoken about voter integrity, the happenings on the 6th of January, and is more-than-decidedly anti-Trump. In fact, many viewing the situation consider Cheney “another Democrat” on the committee. Of only five GOP members, Nancy has chosen one who clearly aligns with her own beliefs. That effectively made the score 9 - 4. ‘The score’ being referenced with the conjecture that Cheney’s appointment has more to do with being partisan and working toward her predetermined outcome than finding any semblance of truth of what happened on that fateful day.
Wait, the one-sided slant gets even better. Cheney now remains the lone Republican assigned to the select committee after Republican choices for the Commission Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) were vetoed by Pelosi.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), in what Democrats called a retaliatory move, then announced that he’s pulling all the Republican appointees from the committee unless she seats Banks and Jordan, and the other members that he assigned to the select committee.
In a statement made live at a press conference featuring those potential Republican committee members on Wednesday, July 21st McCarthy quoted, “Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees.” McCarthy said,
“Republicans will not be a party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts.” He also called her action an “egregious abuse of power.” and accused her of being, ”more interested in playing politics than seeking the truth.”
In a statement made on Thursday, Nancy said GOP Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, “...made statements and took actions that just made it ridiculous to put them on such a committee seeking the truth...” Pelosi also added the widely accepted Democratic lie that the three-hour riot on Jan. 6th was, “the worst domestic assault on American Democracy since the Civil War.” The Speaker of the House must not have been paying attention to the riots and mayhem across the US for nearly all of 2020? (Oh… That’s right… She was too busy eating $60 ice cream pulled out of a $20,000 freezer for ‘her fans’…)

Pelosi’s reasoning for the rejection is questionable at best, especially after refusing to share her criteria for rejecting some members but not all, sternly claiming that the staunch supporters of former President Trump would jeopardize the “integrity” of the investigation. Attempting to give some context and rationale, Nancy iterated, “With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee. The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision.” She was also quoted by the NY Times saying the cause was, “...statements made and actions taken by these members;” Referencing the rejected Republican appointees. When stating that it was the actions taken by these members, she is really referring to how they voted on January 6th against certifying the election.
In dismissing the GOP Reps, Nancy just proved that there was never any intention of a bipartisan display. It has also been said by members of her leadership team that two senior Pelosi allies — Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) — were ‘dead set against’ having Jordan and Banks on the panel. The Dems knew the what the fallout of the veto would be, yet Pelosi still moved forward.

Rep. Jordan had made it clear that if he got on the panel, he was going to question Pelosi about the very serious lack of security on the 6th at the Capitol. This was a huge factor in her decision. It is more than obvious that Speaker Pelosi does not want to be questioned or perhaps be made into a target of this investigation. It is said that influencing factors and certain specifics for the events of January 6th are unlikely to come up at the hearings. However, ‘a factor’ that absolutely should be investigated is what was Speaker Pelosi’s own role instructing the House Sergeant-at-Arms and Capitol Police under the Congress’s direct jurisdiction to maintain a ‘low profile,’ and to essentially ‘stand down’, which enabled rioters to enter the Capitol building.
McCarthy later doubled down and said “Denying the voices of members who have served in the military and law enforcement, as well as leaders of standing committees, has made it undeniable that this panel has lost all legitimacy and credibility and shows the Speaker is more interested in playing politics than seeking the truth,” and, “Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts...”McCarthy’s other picks were Reps. Rodney Davis (R-IL), Kelley Armstrong (R-ND), and freshman Troy Nehls (R-TX). McCarthy has since officially pulled all five members.
In an additional move to feign bi-partisanship, the House Speaker just added, Sunday, the second Republican critic of Donald Trump, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) all while pledging that the Democratic-majority panel will, "get to the truth." Kinzinger, is one of only two Republicans who voted in support of creating the panel. The other being Cheney, of course. Adam, as of July 21st was communicating the sentiment, “I haven’t been offered and I do not expect to be…”, but now has, as per his words, “humbly accepted”. It is interesting to note that per his statement on Kinzinger.House.Gov,
Adam had to remind everyone, “Let me be clear, I’m a Republican dedicated to conservative values…” A little overcompensation for your previous criticisms, doesn’t hurt.
It appears that Republicans are trying to hold their ground and are combating the Democratic rhetoric, as they should, but at this point Pelosi has the select committee she apparently wished for. Nine partisan political puppets, and Nancy is planning on pulling all the strings.
Pelosi, has stated that the committee had quorum to conduct the investigation without any of McCarthy’s five picks and that she was, “moving forward”, before the addition of Kinzinger, and that she still considered the panel bi-partisan due to the appointment of Cheney. She clearly has no regard for ‘ratio’.
The Democrats are trying to hide this obvious lopsided charade by sticking to their usual projection tactics. Apparently, the Democrat marching orders and narrative is supposed to read, according to Mother Jones, that McCarthy was, “...clearly never interested in a meaningful investigation of the facts”.

The situation was escalated, as the conservative House Freedom Caucus sent a letter to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Friday calling for Nancy Pelosi to be removed from her leadership post in the congressional chamber.
“We, the House Freedom Caucus, respectfully request that you pursue the authorization of the House Republican Conference, pursuant to Conference rules, to file and bring up a privileged motion by July 31, 2021 to vacate the chair and end Nancy Pelosi’s authoritarian reign as Speaker of the House,” the group wrote in the letter.
Many things remain to be seen in this unfolding story. Will the Speaker try to appoint more members to the select committee, which was intended to have 13 members? She still has the authority to do so under committee rules.
How will the latest development of the Freedom Caucus’ removal request affect the select committee moving forward? Once the investigation begins, how will the select committee proceed with criteria for review and determination of ‘facts’? We will continue to follow the story as it develops and will be here to inform you of this historic investigation into one of the most infamous days in US history.
