Part I: Interview with Dr. Mark Sherwood
Josh and Dr. Mark Sherwood discussed the 'diseases of the affluent' that we see come about from people congregating into cities. This concept comes from a book called "The China Study". The book looked at rural communities' health compared to what happened when the people were moved into cities.
The six common affluent diseases that come into play are, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, dimension, autoimmune, and osteoporosis. These diseases are only beneficial to big pharma where people are "treated" but never cured.
Dr. Mark Sherwood goes on to go over cellular function in detail. He said, "if we lose ATP production, we lose life." He was discussing this because poor diet results in the cycle stopping short. Energy inefficiency results in people seeking "quick" energy like sugar. Dr. Sherwood explains the mTOR process and diseased cells including cancer. They then move on to discuss what occurs when you don't eat for a period of time called autophagy.
They wrap it up with a question-and-answer session.
